Brian Smith, an Australian surfer, set out in 1978 to create the world’s finest sheepskin boot. He relocated to California, coined the name UGG, and began selling sheepskin boots to retailers across the country. UGG quickly became one of America’s most popular winter shoe brands, thanks to innovations such as the use of rubber and suede instead of leather.

Material

EMUs come with a rubber sole and a padded insole. They are made of 100% wool and often lined with sheepskin for extra warmth. EMUs are more expensive than UGGs but also last longer because they don’t absorb water and get moldy as other materials. 

UGGs, on the other hand, come in many different styles and colors. They’re available in short or tall boots; some have laces while others do not; some have fluffy fur on top, while others have suede or leather tops. These boots are more expensive than Emus, but they only last for a short time because they absorb water and can mold easily if left wet too long. 

UGGs might be less durable than Emus, but that’s one of the trade-offs you’ll make when buying something popular and expensive. If you care about quality and longevity at less price, go with EMUs. Insole, Midsole, and Outsole 

EMU boots are made with a leather upper and rubber outsole. The insole is cushioned, the midsole is flexible, and the sole offers good traction. 

As for UGGs, they have a sheepskin lining that wicks away moisture from your feet. Again, the insole is cushioned, the midsole provides extra padding for comfort and shock absorption, and the rubber outsole grips various surfaces.

Uggs have a traction-friendly Treadlite by UGG™ outsole  which provides cushioning, durability and flexibility, whereas EMU have a treading and rubber outsole for a perfect grip and stability on various surfaces. The midsoles are different in both boots; the midsoles in EMUS and Uggs are made of a soft EVA midsole which provide support and comfort, but there is a slight difference in construct due to which the comfort EMU midsole gives is more compared to Uggs. The insoles of Uggs are made of leather, whereas the EMU has molded EVA insoles placed on removable sheepskin insoles for warmth and comfort. 

Emu shoes provide more protection because they have a rubber outsole that provides excellent traction, whereas UGGs provide less protection. After all, their rubber soles degrade rapidly. Both shoes, however, do an excellent job of keeping your feet warm in cold weather. They are also breathable, which keeps your feet dry. In this boot battle, there has yet to be a clear winner! Both types of footwear will always have advantages and disadvantages. It all comes down to personal preference in the end.

Design

UGG makes sheepskin boots and clothing that are designed to keep feet warm and comfortable. They have expanded to include other shoes and clothing, but their original mission statement remains. Emu Shoes is known for making comfortable footwear for both men and women.

The majority of UGGs are made of synthetic materials that keep feet dry, such as wool or nylon. In contrast, most Emus are made of natural materials that do not absorb water, such as leather or suede. As a result, people who wear UGGs usually need to buy socks as well; however, because there are no seams or gaps between the soles and the upper part of the shoe, this is not necessary when wearing EMUs.

UGG Women’s Classic Short II Boot VS Emu Ridge Women’s Sophie Mini

The Classic Short II from UGG for ladies is composed entirely of suede and dyed sheepskin. It has a heel that is around one inch. Full sizes are available. Compared to EMU, they have a topically applied water repellency treatment.

Women’s EMU Sophie Mini boots are constructed of EVA, Suede, and Wool Blend. It’s imported. The suede makes up the shoe’s upper. Since the interior is made of wool, it is perfect for the winter. The color is Chestnut, and the heel height is also 1 inch. So overall, it is tough competition, but in terms of price, Emu wins.

UGG Women’s Neumel Fashion Boot VS EMU Paterson Lo Women’s Boots

The Neumel series of Uggs for women and men are best sellers and are adored by all boot lovers. They are extremely comfortable and run true to size. You can also try a size smaller to see if they fit comfortably and snugly. Emu Paterson boots with removable sole liners are among the most popular EMU boots. However, EMU Paterson may run small, so order a full size up from your usual size.

UGG Neumel and EMU Paterson share the fact that they are made entirely of leather and have rubber soles. Apart from that, the majority of the other features are distinct.

EMU Paterson Lo, for example, is waterproof, but UGG Neumel is not, and to waterproof Neumel, apply beeswax and allow it to dry. These will provide a coating around Neumel but will not completely waterproof it. Neumels are also not recommended in snow or rainy conditions, whereas EMU Paterson Lo can be worn in these conditions. The EMU has a removable insole, but the Neumel soles cannot be replaced.

The UGG Neumel has a suede upper, a shaft that measures around 3.75″ from the arch, a 13 boot opening, and a 17mm UGGpure insole. The outsole is made of specially designed UGG Treadlite, and the shaft height is 3.75 inches.

The EMU Paterson Lo features a waterproof suede upper, a soft EVA midsole, and a removable insole. The heel cup and toe cap are molded for a perfect fit. The lining is made of Australian sheepskin. The boots are breathable, comfortable, and durable.

EMU Paterson costs between $85 and $100, which is less than UGG Neumel, which costs around $140. Neumel Women’s Boots weigh approximately 10 oz in size 7 width B, while EMU Paterson weigh approximately 11 oz in the same size. 

UGG Men’s Classic Mini Winter Boot VS EMU Ridge Sophie Lo Mid-Calf Boots

The Classic Mini Boots from UGG for Men are composed entirely of suede and dyed sheepskin. They have a UGG-pure Wool Insole and a Rubber Sole. The shaft of the boot is around five from the arch. This pair of boots has a foam insole, nylon binding, and EVA outsole that provides good traction.

Rubber makes up the sole of the EMU Ridge Sophie Lo Boots. The Sophie Lo mid-calf boot from EMU Ridge will keep you warm, comfortable, and fashionable. The boots have suede uppers, snug, shearling wool inner, and a soft EVA midsole for a very comfortable fit. In addition, they have a pull-on boot construction and strong, lightweight rubber outsoles that you can wear indoors and outside.

UGG Men’s Classic Mini Winter Boot weighs around 10 oz whereas EMU Ridge Sophie Lo Mid Calf Boots weigh around 10.5 oz.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the best boot can be difficult because there are so many options and styles available worldwide. And, as I concluded in this Battle of the Boots, Emu is superior to UGG in terms of comfort, warmth, and durability.

The only disadvantage of Emu shoes is that they are less well-known than the mainstream brand, UGGs. They also have a smaller selection of styles and colorways. Having said that, we still recommend giving them a shot if you want something that stands out, is durable, is less expensive, and provides excellent comfort!
